A Vanguard's Year in Review - 2024 Hobby Bingo

As 2025 launches, it's time to reflect on the year that has been. While I'll admit I set some lofty expectations for last year that were beyond my reach, I feel there were some real achievements made, both personally and for the community.

2024 Hobby Challenge

I don't know about you, but I love me a good long-term hobby challenge. I can work on them at my own pace, and I feel that I have more control over what I want to work on at any given time. After running monthly painting challenges the year before, I was in the mood for a change, and that change manifested into #HobbyBingo24. The concept I had in my head was a 'hobby hit-list that participants would work through, collect points and cash those points in for 'fabulous prizes (TM)'. There were 25 challenges offered, with each one offering different points depending on the difficulty/type of the challenge on offer. For those who want to download a copy of last year's bingo kit, you can find it here. For those who are less inclined to click random links from hobby blogs, I have included pictures of the pack's two pages below:

The Breakdown

During the year-long event, we had ten hobbyists (including myself) taking part in the Hobby Bingo Challenge.  For those who like seeing stats, here is the breakdown -

  • One player claimed all 280 points available on the Bingo card.  To add to the enormity of this achievement, approximately 80% of those points were earned in the last two weeks of December!
  • 40% of participants earned at least 140 points across the course of the event.
  • The most earned achievement was B1 - Attend an Organised Event, with 100% completion rate.
  • The second most completed was A1 - Paint a character Model with a 90% completion rate.
  • The average number of points claimed by each participant was 103.
  • Total number of points accumulated by all participants - 1035
  • Total number of points claimed by participants - 705

Overall, I think the first Hobby Bingo was a pretty solid success.  It's hard to maintain consistent hobby progress, especially when life's determined to throw as many challenges at you as possible. The most important takeaway from this event is that 100% of the participants made some sort of progress in their Conquest hobby journey.  No matter how small the progress may be, it's still progress and isn't that the whole point of these sorts of challenges?

2025 Hobby Hit-List

For those who want to try their hand at one of these challenges, I'm running another hobby challenge this year.  Building on the learnings from last year's event, I have made some changes to how the challenges are laid out and how participants can earn points.  I'm hoping that the changes will encourage consistent progress throughout the year and not just in great fits and bursts (not that that is a bad thing!).  You can download this year's Hit-List here. Again, if you're not keen on clicking random links, I have included pictures of the hit-list below.

If you are interested in getting involved, head on over to the Toowoomba Conquest - Last Argument of Kings Facebook Page and comment on the Hobby Hit-List pinned post.  Alternatively, you can just start posting pictures of your hobby achievements and I can track your progress.
